will be available in the second half of 2010. This new model replaces the S60 market since 2001.

In terms of size and price will be an alternative to models like the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class or Lexus IS. In the Volvo, it is placed between the S40 and S80. The design on the front is similar to recent models of the brand, as the C30, the C70 and the XC60.

Very close to the Volvo S60 Concept, presented at the end of 2008. Unlike the latter, the S60 finds the conventional rear doors instead of doors "suicides" (Rolls Royce Phantom, Mazda rx8) on the concept car. but found the panoramic glass roof of the concept car that will be optional or standard depending on the version.

The S60 will have a new system to detect pedestrians. It can detect the presence of any person and stop automatically if the driver does not react in time. It is an evolution of the "City Safety" which has the XC60 and is able to detect an obstacle (not a pedestrian) and automatically brake to avoid collision.

The pedestrian detection system operates with a radar that detects obstacles in front of the car, and a video camera that captures images that are then processed by a computer control capable of identifying a person (the radar can not do it alone).

It is able to avoid a collision against a pedestrian if the speed is below 20 km / h. This device is also able to avoid the collision between two vehicles if the speeds do not differ by more than 25 km / h. The radar is located on the front of the vehicle, while the unit is located in the rearview mirror.

The S60 will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2010. Production will begin in early summer 2010 in the Volvo plant in Ghent (Belgium).
